Yes, Fddb displays both Bread Units (BU) and Carbohydrate Units (CU). Fddb is well suited for tracking nutrition in diabetes. Keeping a diary has many advantages and provides helpful insights.
BU and CU are units of measurement that are primarily used by people with diabetes to calculate the carbohydrate content of foods. This allows them to better adjust their insulin dosage and regulate their blood sugar.
1 BU corresponds to 12 g of carbohydrates.
1 CU corresponds to 10 g of carbohydrates.
KE are a more common and simpler unit, as they make calculations easier.
Both the Fddb apps and the Fddb website display BU. CU are only taken into account in the Fddb apps. In the Fddb apps, you can also display the Fat-Protein Unit (FPU). This value helps to calculate the influence of fat and protein on blood sugar and, consequently, to adjust the required insulin dose.
Fddb apps
In the Fddb apps, you can display your total BU and CU as well as the FPU for the entire day. This is a feature of the premium membership.
Here's how it works:
- Open your diary.
- Below the date bar, you will find a box with values and four small dots below it.
- Tap the right arrow and scroll to the fourth dot.
- Tap the settings wheel.
- Define which individual values you want to display (up to four values).
- Tap on “Bread Unit” and/or “Carbohydrate Unit” and/or “Fat-Protein Unit (FPU)” and save your selection with the check mark in the upper right corner.
- The desired values will now appear in the view.
Please note:
BU values are not currently displayed in the product details or in the diary entries and meals.
Fddb website
On the Fddb website, the BU values are displayed in the following two places:
- In the product details of the corresponding food (per 100 g).
- In the diary in the detailed view. In the “Carbohydrates” column, you can see the BU per product entered and the total per meal.
