For users with an already existing connection to Apple Health, starting from January 1, 2027, the synchronization of Fddb with Apple Health will be part of Fddb Premium. Until that date, you can use the link as usual in the free area.
Because transparent and open communication with our community is especially important to us, we want to inform you early about this change and the exact background.
Why we are taking this step
We fully understand that changes to familiar and popular features can be disappointing. Therefore, we want to be transparent about how this decision came about:
- High maintenance effort: The reliable interface to Apple Health requires ongoing, very time- and resource-intensive maintenance due to continuous iOS updates and new system requirements by our entire team (design, development, support, etc.).
- Growing variety of trackers and systems: The world of fitness trackers and health systems is developing rapidly. Our goal is to seamlessly integrate a wide variety of devices and apps into Fddb. To ensure high data quality and reliability, this requires extensive and continuous testing efforts with every new system.
- Increased data protection and security requirements: Health and fitness data are subject to particularly strict data protection regulations. The continuous adaptation of our systems to the highest security standards and legal requirements requires regular audits and specialized development resources.
- Server and infrastructure costs: The processing, synchronization, and permanent provision of continuous data streams (such as step counts, training data, and weight) generate significant server and computing capacity costs as the number of users grows, resulting in ongoing expenses.
- Precise data processing and cleaning: Fitness trackers often provide unstructured or duplicate data sets (e.g., when steps are recorded simultaneously by the Apple Watch and the iPhone). Our algorithms must intelligently filter and clean this data so that your calorie balance remains exact – a complex process that is continuously optimized.
- Investment in the future of Fddb: To continuously improve Fddb, develop new useful features, and invest in modern technologies, we have expanded our team.
- Fair further development: To continue offering the basic functions of Fddb free of charge for everyone, we must bundle complex interfaces and extended features in the Premium area.
- Exclusive support for interfaces: Synchronization problems between third-party apps and Fddb generate increased support effort. To provide users with fast and reliable service for connection issues, we bundle these complex features in the Premium area.
What does the change mean specifically for you?
- No data loss in Apple Health: Your activity and weight data stored in Apple Health will remain fully intact there. No data will be deleted.
- Visibility in Fddb from 2027: If you continue to use Fddb in the free version from January 1, 2027, the data synchronized via Apple Health (including retroactively) will no longer be displayed in the Fddb app.
- Impact on your calorie balance: If you have enabled the calculation of burned calories against your daily requirement in the settings, this calculation will no longer occur without Premium starting January 1, 2027. This may cause your historical daily balances in the diary to be displayed retroactively as “exceeded.”
- Flexible re-entry: As soon as you decide on Fddb Premium, your Apple Health data will immediately become visible again in the Fddb app and be included in your balances.
